Grand Haven big man joins the CMU 2010 basketball class

Chippewacountry has learned that Nate VanArendonk, a 6-foot-10 post player from Grand Haven, has committed to Central Michigan as a part of the 2010 class.

As a junior, Nate was instrumental in helping the Buccaneers to a 17-9 record and a district championship as he averaged 10 points, 14 rebounds and just over 3 blocks per game.

Chippewacountry was able to catch up with Nate's father, Craig VanArendonk, who in addition to being proud of the fact his son is going to play Division 1 basketball, was also happy with the college he is choosing to play it at.

"We were very impressed by Coach Kohne and how hard he recruited Nate," Mr. VanArendonk said. "He, along with Coach Zeigler, did a great job of not only showing interest in Nate, but following up and continuing to get to know Nate and our whole family. Coach Zeigler and his staff have worked very hard to recruit Nate over the last two years."

Additionally, Mr. VanArendonk expressed excitement regarding the prospect of Nate playing for an on the rise program like CMU's.

"The CMU program on the rise and Nate is ready to come in and work hard to contribute," Mr. VanArendonk said. "Coach Zeigler and his staff do a great job over there and Nate is looking forward to being a part of that program."

Chippewacountry will be bringing you an interview with Nate in the very near future.
