With practices now underway and four commits for the 2010 class in tow, the Central Michigan Basketball program is already putting in work for the upcoming season. However, before the Chippewas set out to defend their MAC West championship, the program has a couple of special nights planned in order to reach out to its fans.

The first event is the fourth annual Tip Off Dinner. As per cmuchippewas.com:

"Head coach Ernie Zeigler and the Central Michigan men's basketball team invite fans to join them for the fourth-annual Tip-Off Dinner, scheduled for Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

The event will be held in the Bovee University Center, in the heart of CMU's campus.

The cost is $35 per person or $200 for a table of six. Fans can also opt to sponsor a player or coach for the evening at a cost of $35.

The event is scheduled to begin with a social hour starting at 6:30, where a cash bar will be available. A classic buffet-style dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and a "Meet the Chippewas" presentation will start at 7:30 p.m.

For more information, or to RSVP, contact Brenda Pung at 989-774-4302 or Brenda.pung@cmich.edu. Attendees are asked to RSVP by October 22nd. "

CMU assistant Coach Darren Kohne was quick to emphasize the importance of the event and also made it known how much the fans mean to Central Michigan basketball program.

"Our Tip-Off Dinner is a great evening to celebrate the start of the season and provides an opportunity for our biggest supporters of the program to get a personal look at what's in store for the upcoming season," Kohne said. "It's a great opportunity to get to meet and greet the players and coaches you will see out on the floor."

In addition to the Tip-Off Dinner, the program will also be hosting its 3rd Annual Fright Night Halloween Bash, which also serves as Rose Rowdie Training. This event will be on Wednesday the 28th and will allow the Central Michigan student body to get a look at the 2009-2010 edition of the Chippewa basketball program.

In addition to Rose Rowdie training, the event will also feature free food and give-aways, costume contests, autographs from coaches and players to go along with three point and slam dunk contests.

Coach Zeigler was very excited when talking about the event and was quick to encourage all CMU students to make their way out to the event.

"Fright Night is like a big Halloween Party for the community of Mt. Pleasant and our student body," Coach Zeigler said. "It's a great night to kick-off our season and have a lot of fun getting ready for an exciting basketball season. Best of all, its free for everyone!"

Both events are great opportunities for CMU fans to get to know the Central Michigan basketball program before it begins its defense of its MAC West Title. Over the past few years, Coach Zeigler and his program have went to great lengths to not only improve the quality of the product on the basketball court but to also reach out to the CMU community. It is because of these efforts that Coach Zeigler is ready for the season to start.

"We are excited about the upcoming season and defending our MAC West title and are encouraging everyone in the community to come out and support us," Coach Zeigler said.
