CMU goes undefeated in Bahamas
Central Michigan went undefeated in its three-game weekend exhibition series in the Bahamas thanks to an offense that produced 100 points in all three games.
The Chippewas got started with a 100-76 win over The Real Deal Shockers Friday. Senior Kyle Randall had a team-high 16 points to pace five other teammates in double figures. Freshman Chris Fowler had 11 assists to zero turnovers while freshman John Simons totaled 14 rebounds. CMU finished the contest shooting 81 percent from the free throw line and 38 percent from the three-point line.
"Our focus in the summer is about effort and improvement," head coach Keno Davis said following the win. "I am very pleased with our team's intensity and look forward to the development of this young team."
A 25-2 run to start Saturday's game led to a 114-69 win over the Bahamas Select Team. Sophomore Austin Keel led the Chippewas in scoring with 31 points. CMU also continued its effectiveness from the international three-point line shooting 55 percent (12-22).
"Again I was most pleased with our focus and effort throughout the game," Davis said. "With six freshmen seeing playing time it will be very exciting to see this team improve."
Sunday evening against the two-time defending Bahamas Basketball Federation champion Giants, the Chippewas started off strong again, leading 12-0 in the opening minutes, and finished with a 126-77 victory.
The squad shot 52 percent from long range while guards Chris Fowler and Kyle Randall combined for 16 assists and just four turnovers.
