November 16, 2012Chippewa big man Zach Saylor scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds in CMU's win over Olivet on Friday night. He addressed the media after the game.
"Give credit to Olivet. They came in here and outworked us, outrebounded us and made it tough on us. But we were able to come back and execute and hit some shots."
On being outrebounded 47-33 (by a smaller team)
"They just got after it quicker than us. They wanted it more than us offensively and defensively, and will be something we will work on in practice."
On the adjustments made after being down 9-0 early
"We just wanted to take a quick breath; it was the start of the game and nerves were going. We wanted to slow it down, gather ourselves and play the game like we know how to, with full-court pressure and things of that nature."
On improving each game
"It's my fifth year here. I'm one of the older guys and I know how the game is played. I play more minutes now than I have in the past; it's just about playing the game as hard as I can."
On his past injuries and how he's feeling now
"I feel real healthy now. My shoulder is keeping up, it's my baby. I've been keeping with it and making it work."
On using both hands in the post
"It's something I've been working on all the time in practice. Good post players are able to use both hands equally. My dominant hand is my left hand, but I try to work on my right hand hook and keep it in sync with my left one."
On the process of returning to the team
"Coach Davis just came up to me and told me that I could come back and play something that I love, and that's basketball. I was in my internship and I was really trying to figure myself out. I think it's one of the best decisions that I've made, and that's coming back and playing."
