November 19, 2012Senior safety Jahleel Addae has been named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in Central Michigan's 30-16 home win over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.
Addae, in his final appearance in the Maroon and Gold at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, headlined a strong defensive effort in the Chippewas' Senior Day victory. He recorded his second straight double digit tackle game, totaling 10, including seven solos and 1.5 for a loss, to go along with half of a sack, and an interception, his team-high third of the season.
Addae's second quarter interception of Miami quarterback Zac Dysert turned the tide of the game in CMU's favor. With the score tied at 7-7, the RedHawks were driving for the go-ahead touchdown but Addae snagged a tipped ball out of the air at the one-yard line and returned it 16 yards, ending the threat. The Chippewas then drove the field and scored a touchdown to take a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
A 2011 First Team All-MAC selection and preseason Jim Thorpe Award candidate,Addae ranks fourth on the team in total tackles (73) and solo stops (32) and has two sacks for a loss of 16 yards and four pass break-ups.
Addae is the fifth Chippewa to be recognized by the MAC with player of the week honors in 2012. Senior quarterback Ryan Radcliff (Sept. 24) and junior running back Zurlon Tipton (Oct. 29) have each been named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week while senior kicker David Harman (Sept. 24) and junior punter Richie Hogan (Nov. 5) have been selected in the special teamscategory.
Winners of three of its last fourgames, Central Michigan (5-6, 3-4 MAC) will look to move to .500 on the season and gain bowl eligibility when it visits UMass (1-10, 1-6 MAC) for a 3 p.m.contest on Friday, Nov. 23 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
