Three Schools Stand out for McClinton

Greg McClinton is one of the top wings from the class of 2013 and he has put together an impressive offer list. While his main focus in the coming months will be AAU basketball he's also thinking about the recruiting process a lot.

The 6-foot-6, 180-pound small forward from Winston-Salem Prep (N.C.) will be lacing them up for the Chris Paul All-Stars throughout most of April and May. CP3 is the same program that current Xavier freshman Dez Wells played with on the travel circuit.

The team will be making stops in Minnesota and Dallas, plus they will be participating in the Boo Williams Tournament in Virginia. He was also invited to the NBA Top 100 and plans on participating in other showcases and AAU tournaments.

Needless to say plenty of colleges are pushing hard for him to visit and he has done a pretty good job of checking out as many as he can. Wake Forest is right around the corner and he has been to Louisville and Xavier plenty of times as well. Those three schools are currently at the top of his list.

"That's my top three," McClinton told MusketeerScoop.com this week. "Xavier, Louisville and Wake Forest."

He went on to break down what it is he likes about each of those schools. McClinton noted there is a common theme.

"I'm pretty comfortable with Wake Forest. They've been recruiting me for a little while now and I've got a good relationship with them. I've always been a fan of Wake Forest since I was little so that's why I like them a lot. I've been around them a lot.

"Louisville has been recruiting me kind of hard lately. As far as visits outside of Winston-Salem, I've probably taken the most trips up there. I've been up there a few times. I've got a good relationship with them and I talk to Coach (Rick) Pitino a little bit.

"Xavier was the first school to offer me and I've been up there a few times as well. I've got a great relationship with all of those coaches. Coach (Chris) Mack, I talk to him like every other week. We've got a real good relationship. Really the thing that sticks out about those three (schools) is the relationship I have with all the coaches."

McClinton said he and his mother are trying to set up return visits to both Xavier and Louisville.

It might seem like he has narrowed his focus to those three schools but McClinton rejects that.

"Those are the schools I've seen the most," he said. "I'm still open to any other school I can build a relationship with. I'm not narrowed down to those, though."

He also noted that he can't put his top three schools in any order yet, preferring to say they're all on equal footing.

As far as how he sees himself fitting in with each team McClinton doesn't see much of a difference.

"They tell me stuff but you can't really determine that until you get there. You've got to work for it. I don't really pay that much attention to all of that. They all say the same thing. I'd come in, I could play and we'd be a good team. I'd be an impact freshman, things like that."

This past season at Winston-Salem Prep, McClinton averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists per game. He's rated the No. 58 junior in the nation by Rivals.com and is a four-star prospect.
