Profile: CB commitment Parry Nickerson
Harvey West Jefferson High cornerback Parry Nickerson is not a big-name recruit. He did not have any scholarships offers from big programs.
Still, Tulane's coaches trusted what they saw at their recent camp, when he wowed them with a big performance. Two days later, they offered him. Less than a week later, he became one of the Green Wave's first 16 commitments and the 13th from south Louisiana.
"I made my decision pretty quickly," said Nickerson, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect who is unrated by Rivals.com at this point. "I couldn't let an opportunity like that slip away. I love their defense. They pressure the ball a lot. They have a lot of confidence in me. I have good ball skills and play good man coverage, and that's what they do. They like man coverage and they like to attack a lot."
Despite attending the Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette camps before Tulane's Nickerson had received only one offer - from playoff subdivision team McNeese State.
"I was surprised no one else offered me, but that's OK," he said. "Tulane's going to blow up. You are going to see big things from Tulane. I'm the first corner to commit ( in the 2013 class; Tulane also has commitments from safeties Leonard Davis and Nico Marley). I want to get some playing time my freshman year. I figure by my sophomore year I will make a big impact."
