Lichtenberg sets Iowa visit

Bettendorf offensive lineman Kyle Lichtenberg remains committed to Iowa State, but while the Cyclones search for a new head coach, the three-star prospect plans to explore all of his options. That will start this weekend when the 6-foot-6, 245-pound Lichtenberg will make make an official visit with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Since Gene Chizik left Iowa State for Auburn over the weekend, Lichtenberg has spoken with the Iowa coaching staff a couple of times, including a visit from offensive line coach Reese Morgan on Monday and a phone call from head coach Kirk Ferentz on Wednesday.

Back in May, Lichtenberg verbally committed to Iowa State, where both of his parents graduated, over a scholarship offer from Colorado State. Iowa had not offered at the time, but is definitely interested now should he decide to look elsewhere.

Iowa is not the only school showing interest, as Illinois has also been in contact and will send assistant coach Kurt Beathard to visit Bettendorf on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lichtenberg is closely following the Iowa State coaching search as he waits to see who will take over in Ames.

Rivals.com ranks Lichtenberg as a three-star prospect and the No. 5 top player in the state of Iowa this year.
