OT Eric Fisher named an All-American

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan senior offensive tackle Eric Fisher has been selected to SI.com's All-America Second Team and to the Associated Press All-America Third Team.

A 2012 First Team All-MAC honoree, Fisher was a mainstay up front for CMU this season, starting all 12 games at left tackle. He anchored a line that helped the Chippewa offense average 6.2 yards per play, second best in the MAC, produce nearly 400 yards of offense per game, and score 30 or more points in the season's final six games. CMU also ranked fourth in the conference in sacks allowed (14). A three-year starter and two-time winner of CMU's Offensive Upfront Player of the Year Award, Fisher is widely considered to the top senior left tackle in the nation and is projected to be an early round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Fisher is Central Michigan's 20th Associated Press All-America honoree and the first since Brian Pruitt earned First Team recognition in 1994. He was just one of two players from the Mid-American Conference to receive recognition on the 2012 AP teams and was the lone MAC representative on SI.com's first and second teams.

Fisher and the Chippewas are preparing for the December 26 Little Caesars Bowl versus Western Kentucky. The game, CMU's fifth bowl appearance in the last seven years, is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in Detroit and will be broadcast to a national television audience on ESPN.

Rivals.com Take: Fisher came to CMU as a rather unheralded recruit out of Rochester (Mich.) Stoney Creek. He was rated as a two star prospect, and he became the first football player from his school to ever receive a Division 1 scholarship after he chose the Chippewas over Eastern Michigan. As a HS senior, Fisher played defensive end, offensive tackle and outside linebacker. As a freshman, he also started at quarterback for the freshman team.

At 6-foot-8, he was also a talented basketball player. He was All-League and was the captain for his squad as a senior.
