UCLA recruits in the new Rivals150
Rivals.com officially released its new 2014 Rivals150 hoops rankings today, and UCLA recruits are scattered throughout the list. BSR dives into where some of the top Bruin targets fell, plus the latest on their UCLA recruitments:
6. Five-star C Myles Turner
The highest-rated UCLA recruit at this time, the Bruins are doing well with Turner right now. But with more national schools recruiting the big center, it's going to be hard to get him to Westwood.
7. Five-star SG Rashad Vaughn
Vaughn took a UCLA visit back in early June, and since then, the Bruins have made some strides. But we're still not convinced Vaughn ends up in Westwood.
8. Five-star F Stanley Johnson
The talk has been Arizona, USC or Kentucky for Johnson. But in recent weeks, UCLA has gotten back by getting the approval of Johnson's mother - who recently had a sit-down with the staff - and his girlfriend, who's committed to play volleyball for the Bruins next year.
16. Five-star F Justise Winslow
Winslow took a trip to UCLA earlier this month, but he has also visited Duke, who most think lead for the five-star right now. We do know he has some Los Angeles ties, and the staff has been recruiting him well, but the Blue Devils will be hard to beat for him.
28. Four-star PG Josh Perkins
Perkins is the biggest recruit in this class for UCLA because of its PG needs. The word is that UCLA is still doing very well with Perkins, but if Kentucky gets involved in July, that might shake things up a bit.
30. Four-star F Kameron Chatman
You can say the staff started out late on Chatman, but word out of Westwood is that UCLA is starting to pick up the recruitment and he is becoming a priority in the 2014 class.
40. Four-star F Reid Travis
Travis picked up a UCLA offer recently, and the word is that Travis has heavy interest in the Bruins. He might be their top "gettable" forward prospect at this point.
43. Four-star PG Jordan McLaughlin
UCLA's other top PG recruit, right behind Perkins, McLaughlin would be a big coup for Steve Alford. He would entice other stars to come with him, and he would make a splash on the national radar. UCLA is one of the big favorites for McLaughlin, along with SDSU, USC, Gonzaga and a few others.
57. Four-star F Brekkott Chapman
Chapman took a trip to UCLA while down in L.A. for the Pangos All-American Camp, and he loved it. If the Bruins offer, he could easily commit, and because of that, he will get looked at by the staff much more in the summer.
60. Four-star SG Namon Wright
Wright had UCLA high on his list when we talked to him in the spring, and from what we've heard recently, nothing has changed. This could very well be a two-horse race between UCLA and Arizona.
67. Four-star C Thomas Welsh
The newest UCLA recruit on the board, Welsh recently took a visit to UCLA that went very well (video interview with Welsh here). If an offer eventually comes, he could be the Bruins big man commitment in this class.
Here's a look at some more Rivals150 recruits who UCLA will watch in July to see if they're deserving of a Bruin offer:
76. Four-star F Zylan Cheatham
114. Three-star SG Dorian Pickens
115. Three-star C Idrissa Diallo
138. Three-star C Jabari Craig
139. Three-star C Jacob Hammond
140. Three-star G Trey Kell
