Toledo postgame: Lavallii and Benton
CMU running back Saylor Lavallii and linebacker Shamari Benton spoke with the media after the Chippewas 38-17 loss to Toledo on Saturday. See below for full quotes.
"The guys up front are doing their jobs and I'm just hitting the holes."
On how to keep Cooper (Rush) composed:
"We just have to come back to work. He made some mistakes, he's a redshirt freshman. He will have to correct his mistakes and come back to practice and play good football."
On the offense's confidence in how Cooper is doing:
"I have 100-percent confidence in Cooper Rush."
On setting a career high with 144 yards today:
"We ran the ball well today, like I said. I don't know about the individual stats, but I'd rather get a win than set a career high, any day."
"We just have to play a whole 60-minute game and not let go like we did in the second half of the UNLV game and the fourth quarter of this game."
On staying positive:
"We've been in this position before unfortunately. The guys got through it then. We've got to keep fighting and come back to practice ready to go."
On the mood in the locker room:
"It's definitely a defeated feeling. The seniors have to lead this team and we have to come back and work. We have to continue to grind. There isn't one way to do a 'right the ship', so we just have to get prepared for the next game and keep working hard."
On preparing for two quarterbacks:
"We had to stay on our keys. Our coaches have a good game plan and they saw [Owens] warming up and thought he was going to play."
