Staff Predictions: Central Michigan-Eastern Michigan

Corey Dull, Staff Writer

The last home game at Kelly/Shorts this season will likely be an empty one. I'm guessing 98 percent of the student body will not be in attendance. With that being said, I expect Zurlon Tipton and the rest of the senior class will to come to play. Enos will run the ball until his running backs puke. Last week's game was ugly, as I predicted. This one won't be close either. CMU is currently favored by 18.5 points. If you want some extra money for the holiday season, you will take CMU and give up the points.

Prediction: Central Michigan 42, Eastern Michigan 13

Jeff Horodeczny, Staff Writer

Central Michigan enters the final week of the season looking to become bowl eligible for the second straight year. The Michigan MAC Trophy is also on the line Friday, as CMU will be looking to win the title outright for the first time since 2010. EMU comes into this game with two wins and without head coach Ron English, who was fired earlier this month.

It has been a long and frustrating year for the Eagles but they still have something to play for. They defeated Western Michigan in week 11, making this game an all-or-nothing matchup for the Michigan MAC trophy. I expect the Eagles to come into this one prepared and looking to finish their season on a high note, but I see CMU continuing the momentum that they gained from last weekend's game against UMass. I think CMU pulls away in the second half with Zurlon Tipton wearing down the EMU defense.

Prediction: Central Michigan 34, Eastern Michigan 14

Central Michigan become bowl eligible for the second consecutive season with a win on Friday. They couldn't ask for a better matchup. Eastern Michigan is one of the worst teams in the FBS. This is the third week in a row that the Chippewas have played a team among the worst in major college football. Last week, they buried UMass in Kelly/Shorts Stadium, but a barrage of turnovers allowed Western Michigan to hang around two weeks ago and make a game of it in Kalamazoo. EMU has a nice rushing attack, led by juniors Ryan Brumfield and Bronson Hill, but has struggled to create plays in the passing game, which keeps them from having a consistent offense. Defensively, they are few teams worse. CMU struggled to run the ball in some nasty weather against UMass, but will face an EMU rush defense that is 120th in the country and allowed 255 rushing ypg. I'd be stunned if Zurlon Tipton and company don't get it going against the Eagles. As long as CMU doesn't turn it over too much, they should win safely and lock up bowl eligibility.

Prediction: Central Michigan 38, Eastern Michigan 20
