Chippewas defeat Dartmouth, 65-48

ANCHORAGE - Junior Trey Zeigler had 21 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday to lead the Central Michigan Chippewas to a 65-48 victory over the Dartmouth Big Green in their last game of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout at Sullivan Arena on Saturday night. Zeigler got his third double-double of the season.
CMU also got 10 points, nine rebounds and a tournament high five blocks from junior forward Olivier Mbaigoto, as well as 10 points, four assists and zero turnovers from freshman point guard Austin McBroom. Sophomore Derek Jackson also had 11 points, six of which came from the free throw line.

The Chippewas (4-2) finished the tournament in fourth place and ended a four-game Thanksgiving week road swing with a 3-1 record.
CMU jumped out to an early 12-point lead for the second game in a row. The Chippewas led 8-0 three minutes into the game, had a 16-4 advantage at the 13:48 mark, and were able to stretch their lead to 15, 32-17, at the half.
The Chippewas never trailed but were forced to fend off a second-half run by the Big Green (2-4) who cut the margin to six with 10 minutes to go. Dartmouth used a 15-5 run over 5:12 to make it 43-37 with 10:15 left, but the Chippewas responded by holding the Big Green without a field goal for the next 5:05. Dartmouth spent the final ten minutes shooting 2-for-11 from the field, including a layup in the final minute when the game was out of reach.
CMU outrebounded Dartmouth 41-35 and had a better assist-to-turnover ratio in the game. The Chippewas had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 12-to-9 and the Big Green had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 13-to-13.
As a team, CMU shot 40 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from three point range and 69.2 percent from the free throw line. Dartmouth was 30.8 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from beyond the arc and 55.6 percent from the charity stripe.
