CMU Prep Roundup: Week 3

Just about all of Central Michigan's 2011 commits were in action this past weekend, and many of them continued to show why the Chippewas thought so highly of them.
Quarterback Alex Niznak, Ithaca (MI)

-Niznak and Ithaca continued a few early season traditions this past Friday: winning big, and having the starters only play a half. After completing 4-5 passes for 68 yards and 3 touchdowns, and adding 159 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing, Niznak once again was a spectator in the second half as the Yellowjackets held a 42-0 over Carrollton at halftime. The final score would see Ithaca on the right side of a 49-7 victory and they move to 3-0 overall.
Safety Denzel Wimberly, Cardinal-Gibbons (FL)
-Wimberly and his squad improved to 2-0 with a 35-21 win over Hollywood Hills. Playing both ways, Wimberly added 132 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on offense and was just as effective on defense as he continues to apply "Wimberly Island" to opponents.
Linebacker Tim Hamilton, Brother Rice (MI)
-With ChippewaCountry on hand, BBR linebacker Tim Hamilton led his team to their first victory of the season in impressive fashion as the Warriors topped Highland Park 35-8 on Friday. As the defensive leader for Brother Rice, Hamilton would finish the game with 5 tackles and be a key cog in a defense that limited an explosive Highland Park offense to just 195 yards overall. After starting the season an uncharacteristic 0-2, Brother Rice appears to be back on track.
Offensive lineman Kenny Rogers, Holt (MI)
-Much like Brother Rice, Holt got off to a disappointing 0-2 start amid high expectations. But, they took a step in the right direction with a 13-10 victory over East Lansing this past weekend. Rogers led an offensive line that allowed Rams running back Curtis Nick to rush for a career high 262 yards and 1 touchdown. Holt will take on Jackson in their next game.
Athlete Blake Serpa, Kaneland (IL)
-Blake Serpa had himself quite a day in Kaneland's 55-6 stomping of Dixon. He would score 3 touchdowns on offense, one rushing and two receiving. He would finish with 1 rush for 11 yards and a touchdown and 2 receptions for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns…meaning he scored every time he touched the ball. To further illustrate his versatility, Serpa also added an 11-yard sack from his defensive end position.
Wide receiver Jason Wilson, Farmington (MI)
-Wilson continued his strong play as he caught 7 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in Farmington's 32-7 victory over Oxford on Friday night. Farmington is now 3-0 and looking to keep their undefeated season alive. As for Wilson? He has firmly put himself on the map as one of the top receivers in the Midwest and the 6-foot and 180 pound wideout continues to make plays every week.
Offensive lineman Ramadan Ahmeti, Waverly (MI)
-Despite jumping out to a 12-7 lead late in the second quarter, Waverly would fall to conference foe Mason 44-26. Despite the loss, Ahmeti pave the way for running back Alante Sims to gain 135 yards on the ground and for quarterback Justin Bray to throw for 96 yards. Waverly is now 0-3 and will take on Owosso next week looking for their first win.
Linebacker Cody Lopez, Plainfield North (IL)
-Lopez and Plainfield North defeated rival Plainfield East in convincing fashion, winning 47-6. Playing as both a fullback and linebacker, Lopez has risen as a leader for his team and has them sitting a 2-1 overall. After playing weak side linebacker last season, Lopez has shifted to the strong side as a senior.
Linebacker Germaine Calmes, Rich Central (IL)
-Rich Central dropped to 1-2 on the season with a 24-14 loss to Rock Island this past weekend. Calmes added 11 tackles on defense and now has 44 tackles on the season, including 22 in a week two loss to Oak Forest.
Tight end Ben Randle, Big Rapids (MI)
-Despite having two of the top players in the area in CMU commit Ben Randle and Western Michigan commit Justin Currie, Big Rapids started their season 0-2 overall, but they picked up their first win on Friday when White Cloud was forced to forfeit. While it wasn't a win in conventional fashion, it was a win nonetheless. Big Rapids will take on Hesperia in their next game.
Look for more prep updates next week!
